06 Aug Ocean Sleeper Showcase Softer Side With ‘Six Feet Down (Reimagined)’
In a time of quiet reflection, Aus Metalcore’s up and comers Ocean Sleeper have turned inwards to revisit their earliest works. Presenting a fresh take on the band’s earliest release, Six Feet Down (Reimagined).
In the height of COVID-19 restrictions, with members isolated across the country, Six Feet Down (Reimagined) received a stripping down of the original and additional new depths to the song, honing on its message.
“From the moment we demoed the original chorus, we knew we had something special. Years later it still holds as a crowd favourite, but there was always a universality to its message. ‘Stay strong when the world just weighs too much, and I know it’s hard to have hope when you’re feeling six feet down’. It captures the glimmer of hope while surrounded by helplessness.” – Karl Spiessl, vocalist
Six Feet Down (Reimagined) captures the band at their most vulnerable. Dismantling the lyrical content of the band’s first official release and repurposing it into a new sonic plain, the track was recorded in guitarist/vocalist Ionei Heckenberg’s home studio within the limitations of the state’s distancing measures, capturing the band in their most intimate.
In addition, mastering duties were once again overseen by their friend and producer of their AIR nominated, best Independent Heavy Album, their debut ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’, Kris Crummet (Sleeping With Sirens, Issues, Dance Gavin Dance, Aleseana).
Since its original release in 2016, four years on, the message finds a new timeliness in this strange new reality and hanging on to hope takes a fresh meaning. Musically, this marks a significant moment for the band, as they shift their style into a gentler composition and the pandemic forced bedroom production adds another edge to this impressive band’s ability.
With all that said I am happy to announce that on Sunday night at 7pm we will be going live on Instagram with Karl Spiessl to discuss everything to do with the new release. I assume we will be drinking a dangerous amount of tequila but that is yet to be confirmed. So come hang out as we will be answering all your burning questions.
